iPhone and iPad

FOLD for iPhone and iPad is distributed through Apple's TestFlight; there is no direct install, and an App Store release is planned.

Requirements

FOLD runs on iPhone with iOS 18 or later and on iPad with iPadOS 18 or later. The same app adapts to both; The FOLD window shows the differences.

Delivery today

The iOS version is delivered through TestFlight, Apple’s app for pre-release versions. TestFlight builds currently go to a closed group of testers; public TestFlight access has not started yet. To ask for access, use Request early access on foldmail.app.

If you are invited:

  1. Install TestFlight from the App Store.
  2. Accept the invitation and install FOLD from within TestFlight.
  3. Open FOLD and add your first account.

Updates

New builds reach you through TestFlight in the same way as the first install. FOLD for iPhone and iPad contains no updater of its own.

Later: the App Store

A release in the App Store is planned. From then on, installation and updates run through the App Store. There is no direct install on iPhone or iPad, now or later.

Your settings across devices

Accounts and settings are stored on each device. If you turn on Device Sync (iPhone, iPad and Mac), your account configuration and settings such as tags, favorites, folder colors and smart folders are synced through your own iCloud, so a new device picks them up. Mail content and keys are never part of this sync; passwords sync only if you additionally agree to password sync through iCloud Keychain.
